High Performers - Who, What, Why?

Presented By:

Michelle K. Preiksaitis, JD, PhD, SHRM-SCP, SPHR

Professor of Management, HRM, and Doctor of Business Administration programs, at Walden University, Capella University, Ocean County College, and San Diego City College/City & Mesa campuses.

Description of the Presentation:

High performing organizations rely on high performers to create an efficient, productive, and competitive workplace. Ask managers if they would prefer high, medium, or low performers on their teams and they will tell you, “High!” Yet, performance appraisal methods and performance management systems are famous for demotivating high performance, and punishing managers who create high performing teams.

Key “take-aways” for the Presentation

Michelle will lead the audience through:

  • defining high performers
  • providing ways to find them
  • helping understand how managers need support in developing them

Using some relevant, real-life case studies, the audience will also help diagnose high performers and ways to develop them.

Michelle presented on this topic at the ATD 2015 Orlando International Conference. The feedback was 5-stars and reviewers claimed the real-life aspect made the presentation interesting and immediately useful to those attending.

More on our Speaker:

Michelle has formed and led student SHRM-chapters for multiple universities, and currently teaches students business, employment law, and HRM theories and practices at the bachelor, master, and doctoral levels. She practiced business litigation in Illinois for 15 years prior to her move into academia, and represented companies of all sizes, including Fortune 100 companies. She has been a business and HRM consultant for hundreds of businesses over the past 27 years.  Her role in academia has included managing a large, online College of Business Management, training new-to-online faculty, and teaching online for 15 years. She lived in St. Croix, USVI for 8 years, and continued to teach online, while also doing consulting work for businesses on the island. She graduated with her PhD in 2016, and now pursues her research interests of leadership styles and high-performance work practices. She moved to Sewall’s Point, Florida in April 2017, where she lives with her husband, Capt. Ray, and their new puppy, Spock. She has four grown children scattered throughout the country, one grandson, and a granddaughter on the way.

Her dissertation was a quantitative analysis of servant leaders’ use of high performance work practices and corporate social performance. She is currently working on an article regarding the differences in how men and women leaders use high performance work practices, and hopes to have it published in the next year.

“Leadership Is A Marathon: How To Stay Motivated As A Leader”

Matt Jones

Keynote Motivational Speaker and Author

Matt Jones, went from being a three-time cancer conqueror, to relearning how to walk, to surviving a bone marrow transplant, to completing seven marathons on seven continents and yes that includes Antarctica!

In a recent survey 75% of respondents said their company is chronically short of leadership talent (War of Talent).  Being an effective leader like a marathon is an endurance event.  Matt’s talk, “Leadership is a Marathon” provides principles that leaders can use to empower, energize, and inspire themselves in order to do the dame for those they lead.

Matt uses his experience of running a marathon as a metaphor to share leadership strategies learned through personal experiences and graduate work in Transformational Leadership

Key learning objectives or key “take-aways” for the Presentation:

Þ The four characteristics that REAL leaders practice

Þ How to have a greater influence and impact on those you lead

Þ Renewed passion for leading others

Þ The number quality of leadership
